Post Publishing team joins Ice Bucket Challenge

Thursday August 28, 2014

The Ice Bucket Challenge craze hasn't cooled down. From the original campaign to raise awareness and funds for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients, the activity has branched out into other charitable causes, with minor changes in the details of the procedure.

Supakorn Vejjajiva, president and COO of Post Publishing Group, accepted the Ice Bucket Challenge from ML Nandhika Varavarn, Bangkok Airways' vice-president for corporate communications, entertainer Burin Boonvisut and Patsarakorn Chirathivat. He passed the challenge on to another nine people, including Suthikiati Chirathivat, chairman of the executive committee of Post Publishing, and Prapai Kraisornkovit, editor of Life section of the Bangkok Post.

Pichai Chuensuksawadi, editor-in-chief of Post Publishing Group and editor of the Bangkok Post, accepted the Thai-version of the Ice Bucket Challenge — the Holy Water Challenge (a bowl of scented water) — issued by Banthoon Lamsam, chairman and CEO of Kasikornbank. Pichai welcomed Banthoon to the Bangkok Post editorial offices and performed the Holy Water Challenge. He did not challenge any individual in particular but urged Thais to donate to charities of their choice because the Ice Bucket Challenge, the Holy Water Challenge — and now the Rice Bucket Challenge (donating a bucket of rice instead of tipping water) in India — is all about giving.

Nha-karn Loahavilai, deputy editor-in-chief of Post Publishing Group, accepted the challenge from Subhak Siwaraksa, president and CEO of CIMB Thai Bank, Pachara Samalapa, executive vice-president of Kasikornbank, and Parnsiree Amatayakul, managing director of IBM Thailand. Nha-karn passed the challenge on to Piyasvasti Amranand, chairman of PTT, Tevin  Vongvanich, president and CEO of PTTEP, and Kesara Manchusree, president of the Stock Exchange of Thailand.

The Post Publishing Group will make a donation to the Thai Red Cross Society.
