Mr. Chavalit Thanachanan


Thailand's Deputy Minister of Finance in early 1991, Mr. Chavalit Thanachanan is the current Chairman of the Bank of Asia, the Advisory Committee of the UCOM Group, Bangkok Life Assurance, the Institute of Directors, and The Post Publishing Public Company Limited. With a B.A. in Economics (graduating with honours) from the University of Manchester, Mr. Chavalit has had a long and distinguished career that began as lecturer at Srinakharinwirot University in 1954. From 1956 to the present day, he has worked as Director for the Bank of Thailand's Department of Economic Research, the Governor of the Bank of Thailand, a Director of the Bank of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, and as an Adviser to the Foreign Affairs Committee, among many other key economy-related posts.

Mr. Chavalit served as Chairman of such notable institutions as the Industrial Finance Corporation of Thailand, The Communications Authority of Thailand, the Expressway and Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand, Securities One Public Company Limited, Srivara Real Estate Group Public Company Limited and Metro Machinery Co., Ltd. He also served a number of charitable foundations, including as Director of the Chin Sophonpanich Foundation and the Won Preuk Chalerm Phrakiat Rama 9 Foundation.

In 1985, Mr. Chavalit was awarded the Knight Grand Cross (First Class) of the Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand, and in 1987, the Knight Grand Cross (First Class) of the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant.

Mr. Chavalit was presented an honorary doctorate degree in Commerce and Accountancy from Thammasat University in 1990. That same year, he was selected Banking and Finance Magazine's Banker of the Year. He joined the Board of The Post Publishing Public Company Limited in October 1997 as an Independent Director, and was elected Chairman of the Board in the same year.




Dr. Vanchai Chirathivat Chairman of the Central Group of Companies, which includes Central Department Store Co., Ltd., Central Pattana Co., Ltd., Central Plaza Hotel Co., Ltd., and companies in the Central Group, Dr. Vanchai Chirathivat is also Managing Director of Bangna Central Property Co., Ltd. He joined the Board of The Post Publishing Public Company Limited in 1993 and is currently Vice Chairman.









Mr. Suthikiati Chirathivat

Executive Vice Chairman of the Central Group of Companies, President of the Central Hotels & Resorts, President of the Central Fast Food Group (which holds franchises for KFC, Burger King, Mister Donut and Baskin-Robbins), and Director of Concrete Constructions (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Mr. Suthikiati Chirathivat was a member of the National Legislative Assembly from 1991 to 1992 and served as Senator from 1992 to 1996. He is currently an Adviser to the Government Committee on Industry and serves on the committees of many charity and sports organisations. He joined the Board of The Post Publishing Public Company Limited in 1982 and is currently Chairman of the Executive Committee.







Mr. Worachai Bhicharnchitr

Managing Director of Vickery & Worachai Ltd., Mr. Worachai Bhicharnchitr holds bachelor's and master's degrees in Law from Thammasat University and New York University, U.S.A. respectively. He also graduated from the National Defence College of Thailand. He has many years of experience as Legal Counsel to various local and international businesses. He also holds various social and business positions, including being Chairman and Director of many multinational companies and joint ventures in Thailand. He is a Lecturer in both undergraduate and graduate studies at the Faculty of Law, Thammasat University. He joined the Board of The Post Publishing Public Company Limited in 1994, and is currently a member of the Executive Committee.






Mr. Suthichai Chirathivat

Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer of the Central Group of Companies, comprising retail corporation, real estate development, garment manufacturing, hotels and fast-food businesses, Mr. Suthichai Chirathivat is also Director of Royal Porcelain Co., Ltd., Concrete Constructions (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Bangna Central Property Co., Ltd. and Central Play Land Co., Ltd. He joined the Board of The Post Publishing Public Company Limited in 1992 and is currently a member of the Executive Committee.









Mr. Owen R. Jonathan

Mr. Owen R. Jonathan joined the Board of the South China Morning Post (Holdings) Ltd. in September 1994 as an Executive Director and Deputy Chief Executive; on 1 January 1998 he became Chief Executive. He is a Law graduate of Bristol University. He joined Norton Rose, a firm of the City of London Solicitors in 1974 and was a partner from 1983 to 1994. He joined the Board of The Post Publishing Public Company Limited in May 1996 and resigned as Director in July 2000.








Mr. Kuok Khoon Ean

Mr. Kuok Khoon Ean has been with the Kuok Group since 1978 and is concurrently Executive Adviser of Kuok (Singapore) Ltd., Director of Kerry Holdings Ltd., and Chairman of the South China Morning Post (Holdings ) Ltd. A Malaysian, Mr. Kuok is a Director of the PPB Group Bhd. and Pelangi Bhd. He also holds directorships in Allgreen Properties Ltd. and GB Holdings Ltd. and is a member of the Singapore Tourism Board. Mr. Kuok graduated from Nottingham University, U.K., with a bachelor's degree in Economics in 1977. He joined the Board of The Post Publishing Public Company Limited in May 1999.






Mr. Lim Soon Huat

A graduate of the National University of Malaysia, Mr. Lim Soon Huat joined the Kerry Group in 1989 and spent most of his career with the Kerry Group of Companies in Singapore, China and Hong Kong, before he was appointed Country Manager to Thailand in 1994. He is currently a Director of the Shangri-La Hotel Public Company Limited and also sits on the board of a number of joint ventures involving the Kerry Group in Thailand. He Joined the Board of The Post Publishing Public Company Limited in 1998.








Mr. Alaster M. Smith

Appointed Managing Director of The Post Publishing Public Company Limited in June of 1998, Mr. Alaster M. Smith was previously the General Manager of Associated Newspapers, the Daily Mail Group in London, and Chairman and Managing Director of Harmsworth Publishing. From 1976 to 1986, he was with Times Publishing, The Straits Times in Singapore (his final position being Group General Manager), and with Singapore Press Holdings. During that time, he occasionally provided consultancy services to the Bangkok Post, with whom his association goes back over 20 years. He resigned as Managing Director of the company in January 2001.








Mr. John B. van der Linden

After the war, Mr. John B. van der Linden spent three years in the Netherlands Army in Indonesia until 1948, when he joined the Royal Dutch Shell Group, serving in a number of countries in finance and general management from 1948 to 1979, the last five years as Finance Director for the Group in Thailand and Laos.

He was Managing Director of Multi Credit Corporation of Thailand from 1979 until 1989. From 1987 to 1998, he served on the General Committee of the Royal Bangkok Sports Club and currently he is a member of the Board Finance Committee of the Asian Institute of Technology.

He rejoined the Board of The Post Publishing Public Company Limited in 1990 after retiring from MCC, and is currently an Independent Director and Chairman of the Company's Audit Committee.





Mr. Ian J. Fawcett

A veteran newspaper man who began his career with the Melbourne Age, Mr. Ian J. Fawcett worked with Reuters AAP, and was Bureau Manager for India, and later, the Middle East. He came to the Bangkok Post in 1977 as Managing Editor, after a stint at the Sunday Telegraph and a distinguished career at the Thomson Organization. He became Managing Director of The Post Publishing Public Company Limited in 1984 and retired in 1988, but remained on the Board until his resignation in April 2000.







Dr. Siri Ganjarerndee

A Bank of Thailand scholar in 1966, Dr. Siri Ganjarerndee earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in Economics (with honours) at Sydney University, and a Ph.D. at Monash.

In the early 70s, while studying in Australia, he also spent a considerable amount of time teaching at Sydney University and the University of N.S.W., and was concurrently appointed a Research Officer at the Reserve Bank of Australia.

Back to serve the Bank of Thailand in 1975, he worked through the rank and file of the organisation, until his final position as Senior Assistant Governor. He also has working experience as an Adviser in the Executive Director's Office of the International Monetary Fund in Washington. His nature of work has required him to participate frequently in major international forums.He was appointed Chairman and Vice Chairman of Dulwich International College and The Thai Vegetable Oil Public Company Limited, respectively, in the year 2000.

He joined the Board of The Post Publishing Public Company Limited in May 1999. He is also a member of the Audit Committee.





Mr. Pichai Vasnasong

Mr. Pichai Vasnasong is concurrently Chairman of Samart Corporation Plc. and Sin Sub Assurance Co., Ltd., as well as Director of the Bank of Asia Plc. He is also Academic Director at Rangsit University and at the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce.

He is involved in numerous social development organisations. He is Chairman of The Family Planning Foundation of Thailand, and Director of The Family Planning Association of Thailand, The Foundation of the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, and the Erawan Hotel's Brahma Foundation.

He is a graduate of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University. He has served as Consultant to a number of ministers--Minister of Foreign Affairs Gen. Siddhi Savetsila, Minister of Finance Sommai Huntrakul and Prime Minister Prem Tinsulanonda. He was a Senator between 1985 and 2000. He joined the Board of The Post Publishing Public Company Limited in May 2000 and is a member of the Audit Committee.





Mr. Attapong Kateratorn

A graduate in Marketing from Seattle Pacific University, U.S.A., Mr. Attapong Kateratorn is currently Senior Executive Director of Thai Tinplate Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TTP), Managing Director of G.S. Ceramics Co., Ltd. (GSC), Managing Director of G.S. Transport and Service Co., Ltd. (GST), Director of G.S. Intertrade Co., Ltd. (GSI), and Director of Thai Steel Bars Co., Ltd. (TSB). He joined the Board of The Post Publishing Public Company Limited in 1994.










Mr. Chartsiri Sophonpanich

Having graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a master's degree in Chemical Engineering in 1982, and from Sloan School of Management with a master's degree in Management in 1984, Mr. Chartsiri Sophonpanich spent one year with Citibank in New York before joining Bangkok Bank Public Company Limited in 1986, where he is currently President. He joined the Board of The Post Publishing Public Company Limited in 1992.










Dr. Kantathi Suphamongkhon

While teaching International Law and finishing his Ph.D. in International Relations at the University of Southern California, Dr. Kantathi Suphamongkhon served as an Adviser on Foreign Affairs to the Prime Minister of Thailand. Upon completion of his Ph.D., he returned to Thailand and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for nine active years. His diplomatic career began in the Ministry's International Organizations Department, where he focused on Thailand's multilateral diplomacy when Thailand was serving its two years as member of the United Nations Security Council. Later, in the Political Affairs Department, he focused on the preparation of the Third Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Between 1988 and 1992, he served as Diplomatic Representative of Thailand to the United Nations in New York. Back in Thailand in 1992, he was a Counsellor in the International Organizations Department and also an Adviser on Foreign Affairs to the Speaker of the House of Representatives in the Thai Parliament. He served as Director of the Policy and Planning Division between 1993 and 1994.

Dr. Kantathi resigned from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994. He is now Director and/or Managing Director of numerous companies including: Athakravi Co., Ltd., Athakehaputt Co., Ltd., Kanta Enterprise International Co., Ltd. and Kanta Sahakij Co., Ltd. On 2 July 1995, Dr. Kantathi was elected member of the House of Representatives of the Thai National Assembly. In 1996, Dr. Kantathi was the Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister of Thailand.

He joined the Board of The Post Publishing Public Company Limited in 1994.






Mr. Cyril D. Pereira

Mr. Cyril D. Pereira started his newspaper career in 1967 with the Straits Times Group in Singapore. That led to technology and management studies at the London College of Printing, on a Straits Times scholarship.

In addition to experience in print technology and magazine publishing in Singapore and Malaysia, Mr. Pereira also managed local advertising agencies in both countries.

He has been with the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong since 1985, responsible for newspaper technology investment and operations. He was concurrently the Publisher of the regional Asia Magazine for 12 years.

Mr. Pereira has been Chairman of the Society of Publishers in Asia and continues to serve on its Executive Board. He represents the Newspaper Society on the government's Publishing Training Board in Hong Kong.

The South China Morning Post has won numerous international awards for its excellence in colour quality.

He joined the Board of The Post Publishing Public Company Limited in September 2000.
