More than 2,500 runners gather at the starting point of the 4th annual Bangkok Post International Run 2012 in front of Centara Grand at Ratchaprasong. The event raised more than 600,000 baht for the Bangkok Post Foundation which provides scholarships to underprivileged children throughout the country.

Runners from Ethiopia won both the male and female overall categories, breaking the dominance by Kenyan runners who had swept the awards in the past three years.

The first Thai male finisher at 36:04 was Jiratikran Boonma, while the first Thai female runner was Kan Kusuwan, crossing the line at 44:49.

The event was presided over by Bank of Thailand Governor Prasarn Triratvorakul, and held to mark the 66th birthday of the Bangkok Post.

Mr Prasarn also participated in the 3.5km category. Bangkok Post staff also took part in the run.

For the first time, there was a third category, a 3.5 km run/walk for beginners.

The race raised more than 600,000 baht for the Bangkok Post Foundation which provides scholarships to underprivileged children throughout the country.
