Worachai Bhicharnchitr, Vice Chairman of Bangkok Post Public Company Limited, with four speakers at the “กลยุทธ์การตลาดออนไลน์ พิชิตยอดขายยุคดิจิทัล ” seminar.

Worachai Bhicharnchitr, Vice Chairman of Bangkok Post Public Company Limited, opened the seminar 5 จี พลิกชีวิตเอสเอ็มอีไทย said that aside from the government driving this policy, all sectors must push forward. Large operators, in particular, must mentor the more than three million SMEs in the economy.

Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Suvit Maesincee, gave a keynote speech on "พลิกโฉมเศรษฐกิจไทยด้วย 5G" noted that we are entering the 5th era of technology. In the past year, 15 countries have upgraded from 4G technology to 5G.  He said that as and when Thailand fully upgrades to 5G the disruption will be even greater than over the past 10 years.

Suwit Mesintri, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, noted that 2010 ushered in the 4G era and now we are preparing for the 5G era which will be an era of “Continuous Disruption”. From connecting people to people we will move to connecting people to things and things to other things. It's a big change that will shock the world. However, it is not too late to prepare for 5G technology which has the benefit of a data transfer rate 100 times as fast as 4G with only 1 in a billion data errors.

Anurak Sanruthai, of Hasan Dried Seafood, Satun Province, said the business started by learning from trial and error, using technology and adapting from problems encountered. The essential business idea was to find dried seafood products and posting them for sale via Facebook.

At first, there were people interested but no one bought. Then he came up with an idea of how to get people interested.  He decided to adopt a live sales strategy.  At first he didn’t get any takers with a price of 400 baht plus 50 baht shipping cost. So he adopted a new strategy, creating a story with a live response which was fun with the audience and led to pricing at  450 with free delivery.

Sakulrat Tanyongsiri, Head of SME Business, LINE Corporation Thailand, explained that 5G technology will connect all devices with the Line Official Account or Line @, a platform with a variety of features to meet the needs of entrepreneurs and maintain customer bases from data creation.  If able to maintain a loyal customer base of 5%, they will be able to increase sales by 20%-25%.

Kewalin Singhakham, Managing Director of North Star Digital Co., Ltd., gave an overview of social media marketing.  She said the arrival of 5G technology will make marketing faster which will, in turn, affect advertising.  Data reception and display advertisements of internet advertisements will increase, as will sending and receiving video content and VR (virtual reality). The result is a kind of personalization model, with ordering of products in real time, interactive responses and low latency from Internet usage. Where SMEs can adjust quickly and use chat bots, they will have more opportunities to succeed.

Suchaya Paleewong, Marketing Manager, Shopee (Thailand) said that Thais on average are on their mobile phones 10 hours a day. This implies a lot of accessibility. If government  pushes 5G, it will change the user experience more than online shopping.  With faster internet and new innovations, Shopee will create new experiences for users.

They found that it reached 1.8 billion baht, compared to retail value of 3 trillion baht, so only 2%-3%.  Moreover, the data indicated that 40% of Thais shop through social commerce channels, 35% through e-Market Places, and 25% through online retail.

Piroon Paireepairit Head of the Working Group and Strategy Committee 5G, True Corporation Plc. (หาเช็คไม่ได้ ไม่รู้เขียนถูกป่าว) said that 5G technology is "Thailand’s Talk of the Town".  Previously True was a communications service provider and part of the country's infrastructure. However, in the future, it will not be a telecommunications company, but an AI organisation.  The working atmosphere will change to a new eco-system and True will be the provider of various digital platforms to facilitate the new digital co-system.

Suwanchai Lohawatanakul, Director of the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP), looked at the Thai SME situation from the perspective of OSMEP, a policy oversight agency with the goal of how to make Thai SMEs stronger by raising the level of Thai SMEs, planning  goals and selecting focus groups.  Because even if they are the same weapon, different individuals and entities will win or lose. So each group requires different tools.
