In 2000, the department of Human Resources and Development (HRD) organised several activities, and held, internally and externally, practical and work-related training programmes to enhance staff knowledge and skill development.

On service development, Service Plus stressed the importance of good service with an emphasis on customers. As selling is a core activity, sales courses were provided to motivate and provide new knowledge to salespersons.

For the managerial and supervisory levels, HRD offered training courses to fit their scope of responsibility. Included in the management training programme were courses on such subjects as Frontline Leadership, Organisational Performance, Problem-solving & Decision-making and Team Effectiveness.

The HRD Department is committed to developing staff knowledge and skills in many areas, including the correct usage of the English language, through basic to intermediate courses. Creativity and Work Improvement was among several other personal skill development courses offered throughout the year 2000.

To acquaint new staff with the vision and business directions of the management, HRD conducted regular orientation courses.

The HRD Department also launched the Quarterly newsletter, an internal publication published every three months with the help of other departments, to disseminate internal news to staff.

Besides starting up a new newsletter and organising appropriate training, the HRD Department was also involved in numerous other projects during the year: it supported several fitness programmes at the Post Gym, such as aerobics, yoga and ballroom dancing; fitness competitions were held periodically to attract more staff to sign up for fitness programmes. Moreover, a merit-making ceremony was held on the Post's anniversary, when the management offered food, necessities and flowers to the monks, while staff brought in their own offerings.

In line with safety requirements, a basic training course was conducted on fire prevention and fire-fighting. The Department also organised courses on the Social Security and Workmen's Compensation funds, to let the staff know about their privileges and benefits
